Hello, my name is Marcus

Hi!Marcus and the tea party

My name is Marcus and am 25 Years old, born in Sweden and have lived in Uppsala for 1,5 years now. I study Sociology with my focus being organisation, conflict resolution and recruitment. I put a big value on my studies, but feel that my passion for organising events and working with other people is what made me interested in TEDx in Uppsala.

I’ve learned that you can work with the most talented of individuals, but without a sustained and consistent structure, a project will fall apart quite easily. I think it is important to spend a lot of time regard the small details and not to leave anything to chance. If I have an eye on the details the big picture and experience will be so much better!

I like to involve myself fullheartedly in both the projects and the people who will make it possible so that we can together make TEDx in Uppsala 2016 the best ever!

There are so many things I want to tell you about the event, but can’t because the marketing team would yell at me.. again. So I have to leave you now before I spoil anything and hope that by the next time we meet I can truly show you the magic that will be TEDxUppsalaUniversity 2016!

Harmen and Isabelle

My name is Isabelle and I’m very happy to be on the TEDxUppsalaUniversity team! Me and Harmen are going to take care of the speakers and make sure that this will be an awesome day both for them and for the audience. When I’m not doing TEDx stuff I work at Statistics Sweden with R&D statistics. Yes, this means that I love nice charts, but that’s not my only interest. I also love trains, cats, psychology, dating shows on TV, cross country skiing and documentaries, preferable about relationships or religious sects.

That’s all for me now!

All the best, Isabelle

Harmen and Isabelle

Hi there! My name is Harmen, I’m 24 summers young, born and raised in the Netherlands and moved to Uppsala some ten months ago in the pursuit of Nordic excellence. I’m an evolutionary biology graduate student with a main interest in the development and secrets of the brain, but all science intrigues me. That’s where TED comes in; you can read textbooks and papers all you want but a theory is useless until it’s boiled down to a compact idea that can be spread from person to person and brain to brain.

Those ideas is what I’m after, as speaker curators Isabelle and I will make sure that you, the audience, will be enlightened by a wide variety of speakers and their ideas at this year’s TEDxUppsala. Through the open nomination in which YOU can nominate speakers for the event and some additional headhunting we hope to present you with an exhilarating program in which ideas are not just spread, but created as well.

Harmen.

Main Coordinator tasks – or how to make sure everything doesn’t fall apart

Hello! This is your main coordinator speaking. I just wanted to tell you that the journey towards TEDxUppsala 2016 has begun, and this is what it sound like:

“When do we need to know what venue to use? – Is the castle available? – Do you think we can get UKK? What date did we say? Maybe we want something a bit more low key? – Already got a main sponsor? NICE! – Does anyone know where the decoration from last year is stored? – How much can I spend on the new webpage? – OMG! Do you think person XYZ would like to come!? – Have you had time to talk to last years camera tema? – I want to make a promo movie! – Anyone knows how to use InDesign? – Everybody just sit still for five seconds so I can take a picture!”

I truly love this part of projects – when you can feel that something big is going to happen and the atmosphere is filled with visions, dreams and energy.

But in order to make use of this we need structure and that’s where I come into the picture. Everything that is awesome is built on hard work (“Work hard, play hard” like David Guetta sings) and that means that I’m currently struggling to get an overview of all of these visions and dreams, summarize them, tame them, and force them into well structured boxes in the shape of budgets, gantt schedules, and deadline lists.

This year my team has everything a main coordinator can ask for. The ideas and the “wouldn’t it be awesome if…”s keep coming in a pace that is as beautiful as it is hard to control, which means I know we’ll make it: we’ll create something worth remembering.

And you know what? The main coordinator would love you to join us on this journey, as a speaker (contact Speaker Team), sponsor ( contact Sponsor Team), volunteer ( fill out sign-up form) and last but not least: in the audience (sign-up for newsletter to be alerted when ticket application is open!
